Air India and Lufthansa Technik have concluded a multi-year contract covering the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of the Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) installed on the Indian carrier’s growing Airbus A350 fleet.
Under the agreement, Lufthansa Technik will provide comprehensive technical support exclusively for 40 Honeywell HGT1700 APUs, further strengthening its position in the maintenance of this APU type. All services will be performed at the company’s specialised APU workshops in Hamburg, Germany.
As an officially authorised warranty and maintenance provider for the Honeywell HGT1700 APU, which is designed exclusively for the Airbus A350, Lufthansa Technik brings technical expertise and certified capabilities to support reliability and performance. The agreement covers a comprehensive MRO service portfolio, including spare APU support and engineering services.
Jeremy Yew Jin Kit, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Maintenance, Air India, said the exclusive long-term agreement represents another milestone in the airline’s growing partnership with Lufthansa Technik. He said that, as India’s first Airbus A350 operator, Air India requires a maintenance partner with extensive technical expertise and a strong track record in supporting next-generation aircraft systems.
Yew Jin Kit added that Lufthansa Technik’s capabilities in maintaining HGT1700 APUs provide Air India with the reliability required to support its expanding A350 operations. Together with the airline’s ongoing Boeing 777 component support programme, the agreement further strengthens the collaboration between the two companies.
Johanna Koch, Vice President Corporate Sales Asia Pacific at Lufthansa Technik, thanked Air India for its trust and for selecting the company to provide APU maintenance services. She said Lufthansa Technik was pleased to expand its existing cooperation with Air India, following component support for the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet, to include its Airbus A350 fleet.
Koch added that Lufthansa Technik is proud to support Air India as the airline continues its transformation journey.
