Boeing and AerCap have announced that AerCap, the leasing industry’s largest 787 Dreamliner customer, has placed a new order for 15 Boeing 787-9 jets. The latest purchase increases AerCap’s 787 Dreamliner portfolio to approximately 140 aircraft.
The agreement includes substitution rights for the 787-10, providing AerCap with the flexibility to switch to the larger 787 Dreamliner variant, which offers greater capacity and additional opportunities for airline customers.
Aengus Kelly, CEO of AerCap, said the addition of the 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft further strengthens the company’s position as the world’s largest owner of 787 jets.
Kelly added that as demand for modern, fuel-efficient widebody aircraft continues to grow, the transaction will provide AerCap’s customers with greater access to the 787 family. He said the aircraft has consistently demonstrated strong operating economics and performance across a wide range of route networks.
AerCap’s 787 Dreamliner portfolio provides airlines with aircraft options as they seek to renew their fleets and support sustainability objectives. As the largest member of the 787 family, the 787-10 can provide 50 more seats than the 787-9 while reducing fuel use and emissions by 25% compared with the aircraft it replaces.
As airlines manage near-term macroeconomic uncertainties, AerCap’s portfolio enables customers to expand or replace older widebody aircraft without committing to direct purchases.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said AerCap’s continued investment in the 787 Dreamliner family highlights the aircraft’s role in supporting long-haul connectivity and economics for airlines.
Pope added that Boeing values its partnership with AerCap and looks forward to supporting the company and its customers as they develop and maintain new long-haul routes and further expand global connectivity.
