AerCap Holdings N.V. has delivered the first of three new Airbus A321neo aircraft to Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL). The aircraft was handed over during a ceremony at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Hamburg, marking the introduction of the A321neo into AZAL’s fleet.
The delivery is part of a broader programme agreed in 2024 covering three A321neo and three A320neo aircraft. The first two A320neo aircraft were delivered earlier this year, with the remaining aircraft scheduled for delivery through November 2026.
Peter Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer of AerCap, said the company was pleased to be the first lessor to introduce the A321neo to AZAL, supporting the airline’s fleet expansion and modernisation. He added that the new fuel-efficient aircraft would enhance operational capabilities, support network expansion and contribute to an improved passenger experience.
Jamil Manizade, Chief Commercial Officer of Azerbaijan Airlines, said the arrival of the first A321neo represented another significant step in AZAL’s long-term fleet modernisation strategy. He said the airline’s continued investment in next-generation aircraft would strengthen operational capabilities, improve fuel efficiency and create opportunities for sustainable network growth.
Manizade also highlighted AerCap’s role as a trusted partner and said the A321neo delivery, following the recent introduction of the A320neo aircraft, supports AZAL’s ambition to develop a modern, efficient and passenger-focused fleet serving the evolving needs of Azerbaijan’s aviation sector and its growing customer base.
