EDGE Group has completed the acquisition of Brazilian aerospace engineering specialist AKAER, following the signing of a share purchase agreement between the two companies in July.
The transaction was completed after all customary conditions precedent were fulfilled. As part of the acquisition, SIATT will retain a minority equity stake in AKAER, helping preserve the company’s status as an Empresa Estratégica de Defesa (EED).
The acquisition strengthens EDGE’s presence in Brazil and expands its investment in the country’s defence industry. It is also expected to support the development of strategic technologies, national capabilities, employment opportunities and technical skills.
AKAER provides EDGE with an established engineering base in Brazil and a multidisciplinary team covering the product lifecycle, from project design through to industrialisation. The company is already working with EDGE on the development and industrialisation of unmanned systems, providing a foundation for further integration across the Group.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, said the completion of the acquisition marks an important milestone for EDGE in Brazil. He added that the Group looks forward to AKAER’s continued contribution to Brazil’s defence ecosystem and to the engineering expertise it brings to EDGE’s wider capabilities.
Founded in 1992 and headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, AKAER has developed expertise in complex aerospace programmes and contributes to Brazil’s national aerospace capabilities. The company has accumulated more than 10 million engineering hours across aerospace programmes for global manufacturers, covering military and commercial platforms.
