Bombardier has announced that the Global 8000 business jet has set a new speed record on a flight from Los Angeles to Farnborough, UK. The aircraft completed the city pair in 8 hours and 46 minutes. During the record-setting flight, the Global 8000 reached a top speed of Mach 0.93 despite unfavorable tailwinds. The new record is 2.2% faster than the previous record for the route.
With a top speed of Mach 0.95 and a range of 8,000 nautical miles, the Global 8000 is designed to deliver high-speed, long-range performance, enabling passengers to travel farther and reach more destinations efficiently. For this mission, the aircraft flew to Farnborough to showcase its performance capabilities and participate in the aerial display at the Farnborough International Airshow.
Stephen McCullough, Executive Vice President of Engineering, Product Development and Bombardier Defense, said the new speed record highlights the Global 8000’s speed, agility and performance. He added that the aircraft combines its high-speed capabilities with a smooth ride, luxurious cabin, low cabin altitude and landing capabilities designed to provide access to a wider range of airports.
